Laptops and the internet have turned me into a spoiled, stubborn child. I want the things I want when I want them, and I’ll have it no other way. There’s a new album out that I want to hear? I’ll just download it now! A new Modern Family episode premiered? I’ll watch it when I’m done with work! Kanye released a new G.O.O.D. Friday song? I’ll listen to it immediately and aggressively gchat Nathalie until she answers!

My desire to have things run on my personal schedule (combined with the fact that I have no television) means that I do not tend to watch special televised events. For someone as tapped into pop culture as I am, this is a bit strange, upsetting, and stupid.
This past week, I missed the VMAs even though Robyn, Kanye, and Lady Gaga were all featured. Here is what I’ve learned post-event via the internet:
1) Robyn was great, as usual, and youtube clips of her performance are ephemeral. This may be gone by the time you are reading these words (but mtv has posted a short clip here.) This, though, is permanent and cute.
For comparison:
Robyn is 31 and Katy Perry is 25. CAN YOU TELL?
2) People are very angry about this outfit:

Me too, but mainly because I love a good steak and it looks like a waste of many good steaks….unless Lady Gaga had a cook out after the VMAs, in which case she is more of a genius than I thought.
3) Some stuff happened with Kanye and Taylor Swift. I was going to look for videos and information, but then I realized that I don’t care at all.
4) Lady Gaga won everything. If “video music award” were an abstract phrase and not a tangible thing, I feel like it would be a good way to describe Lady Gaga. She kind of IS a video music award, no?

5) People aren’t talking about Usher’s amazing performance enough.
It was like The Matrix plus Entrapment plus Mission Impossible plus those velcro suits you wear in moonwalk obstacle courses at amusement parks ALL IN ONE.
Usher IS the nineties, and I hope he never changes.
6) I miss TRL.
